Renowned for their mind-expanding and über-profound songwriting, the band is not shy to admit they can have their Spinal Tap moments. "We took a break from the studio and went to a bar to watch The Ashes cricket match on the telly," says multi-instrumentalist Rhys Wiggers-Stank. "Didn't have a name for the album yet and we thought a few pints might elasticize the old cerebellums a bit."
"Well, our drummerRachael," Rhys continues, "tells us to stand for the national anthem, but it came out as 'Nashyonal Anathema'. All of a sudden, Megan (Catrona, guitar/synths) gets that thousand-watt bulb look on her face, grabs a napkin and arm-wrestles a pen from the bartender. She scribbles something down and bolts out of the bar. Not sure how much time had passed, but about two more pints had been polished off, and Megan comes back with the title song for our album National Anathema, composed and ready to record. Rock N' Roll, eh?"
