Hot Dollop "Self-Titled LP" shirt
Three answers to three questions will go a long way to get to the bottom of Hot Dollop, the band. Thankfully, Dollop frontman Billy Beau Richardson is glad to clear the air.
#1: What is a dollop? "Well, accordin' to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it's an indefinite, and possibly large, amount of of somethin' liquid. Like gravy on yer biscuits or sour cream on a taco."
#2: Why the name Hot Dollop? "Our original name was 'Collard Blues', like a twist on Collard Blues - get it? It was dumber than a Lousiana stump in a swamp, but we couldn't come up with anything else. But the day after one of early shows we read the review in the local paper and it said, 'a big ol' dollop of hot, greasy blues rock.' We had our name right then n' there."
#3: What's with the ladle on the cover of your debut album? "The first show after we started playin' under our new name, one of our biggest fans brought an actual ladle and stood right up front wavin' the dang thing around. I forgot my slide backstage so I couldn't do my normal solos. She threw the ladle up to me and tarnation if I didn't play the best geetar of my life that night. Never forgot her - she's now my wife - or that ladle when it came time for the record cover!"
